Business Fundamentals (Certificate)

Description

The Graduate Certificate in Business Fundamentals is designed to give students with non-business degrees a comprehensive foundation in the current body of knowledge and skills in business. This graduate certificate provides essential knowledge in the fundamental fields of business: accounting, finance, management, marketing, economics, business law, and statistical analysis. In addition to being a stand-alone credential, the Graduate Certificate in Business Fundamentals satisfies all prerequisites and one core course for the Detroit Mercy MBA program, which was recently ranked among the top 25 graduate management programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. This graduate certificate can be offered as a stand-alone certificate (for those who do not wish to complete an MBA) or in conjunction with pursuing an MBA. All coursework from this program may be applied toward MBA requirements, should you choose to pursue an MBA at University of Detroit Mercy in the near future.

  • Admission Requirements

    Admission decisions are based on an undergraduate GPA, GMAT score (if needed), work experience, and other degrees.

    • Complete the Online Application;
    • Official transcripts for all previous academic work;
    • A resume;
    • Letter of Recommendation (included in the online application); and
    • Applicants are welcome to include any other information they feel is important to the admission consideration. This information can be uploaded while completing the online application.
  • Requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Business Fundamentals (15 credits)

    The graduate certificate consists of five graduate courses. The Graduate Certificate in Business Fundamentals consists of 15 credit hours.

    Required Courses

    Requirements include a set of courses designed for those applicants who have had no exposure to business courses in their academic background.

    • ACC 5100 Corporate Financial Accounting (3 credits)
    • MBA 5100  Legal Issues in Organizational Strategy (3 credits)
    • MBA 5120  Data Analysis for Decision Making (3 credits)
    • MBA 5180 Fundamentals of Financial Management (3 credits)
    • MBA 5240 Marketing Management and Planning (3 credits)
